Local Fun

A couple of weeks ago, I walked to my afternoon bus stop and suddenly, frantically, and fruitlessly rooted in my side bag for the camera. Some street wag had set up a miniature golf course in the alley west of the Ave.

The installation could not have been more ephemeral: one truck is all it would have taken to wipe out the putting green and colorful piles of detritus that were set further north along the walls of the adjoining bank.

Gift Wrap

The last couple of Christmases, I’ve stopped at the Glorious Age shop at the Market and picked up posters in the area of interest of various gift recipients. Posters are an expensive bother to collect, but cheap enough to use to cover a present. A poster that’s been folded and handled can readily be mounted on a wall, like the real thing that appears on fences and utility poles. There’s no fear of having to store a huge, flimsy piece of acidic paper.

See What You're Up Against

Clear the calendar for a long week-end.
Set out all the bits and pieces of home maintenance chores close to where you’ll be using them.
Pour yourself a cup of coffee and sob quietly.
Throw things away.
Finish things.
Dust, vacuum, wash the windows.
Vow to keep up.

Clutter is a vital sign. I’d rather live with an empty room than one that is slowly composting from neglect.
